So, has anyone ever had to deal with this absolute piece of shit 'security software' before? So far I've got 4 hours into trying to get it off of one of our VP's tablet PCs. Remove it, and it kills networking. Leave it in, and the CPU never seems to go below 50% utilization. OK, so how does it protect your PC? I guess making it COMPLETELY FUCKING UNUSABLE means that you'll never get a virus.

My past experience with tablets tells me that I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall the O/S. Symantec's forums have proved to be useless. Their 'removal tool' doesn't work with this shit. Internet searches show that lots of people have the issue with it pushing the CPU harder than it should AND with it screwing everything up when it's removed. Hell, it even screws up permissions on registry keys, so that you can't delete them to correct the problems after uninstall.

Once after removing that craptastic software, I had to rebuild the TCP/IP stack and re-install the NIC driver. The rebuild of the stack was what fixed my problem. EPP binds to the NIC as you well know.

I've been slowly moving anyone with Symantec EPP to other solutions.

I wish that it was that easy to correct the problem. Registry keys that are associated with the bullshit Teefer2 driver are locked solid, I can't run any sort of installation without being told that there's already a pending operation from a previous installation, and I can't even check the properties of my network adapter, without Explorer taking a shit on me.

Obviously you've never tried to get Win7 Tablet Edition properly configured, on a Dell XT2.

I've hated all of the big three in Internet Security. Symantec (Norton), McAfee and Kaspersky. Every fucking one of them completely takes over the computer and slows it down beyond belief. Need to find some type of firewall/security software that doesn't take over the whole fucking system, but still provides security against downloading viruses, etc.

Say what you will about Norton but I've never had an issue uninstalling McAfee, unless the system was so badly riddled by virus that I had to reinstall anyway. This system is CLEAN. Not even any bad browser cookies. I've had this sort of bullshit with Norton/Symantec products since I first got into the industry.

Use AVG Free or Avast. They're pretty slim.
