Thats a great price. That scope is worth nearly half that value alone(new).

Remington Premium makes some nice ballistic tips in a 165gr called Accutips. Extremly lethal on deer. You can use 180gr but the 165gr is a little nicer on your shoulder.

For .270 Win? That sounds more like .308 or 30-06 weight.
For .270 you generally get 130 or 150gr and either of those are fine for the size of deer he'd be likely to see in TX.

Yeah .308. For some reason I thought that is what he got I missed the .270 part.. I'm partial to the short actions.

I found the quote for when I priced out a 700SPS for my son. I was looking at $540 with no scope so you definitly got a sweet deal.
