Default Is Business the new Liberal Arts?

Liberal Arts degees take a lot of flack.....but is Business the new Liberal Arts?

Everyone I know takes Business. They're not further ahead than the LA grads.

Anyone else noticed the shift in paradigm?

Business was the party degree at UT when I was there. People who couldn't hack it in engineering transferred to the Business school.

don't know if its new, business is kinda catch all of all the other degree fall outs. your chances of getting a decent job are better w/ bus. deg. vs liberal arts.

Agreed

MBA programs aren't exactly spitting out quality either.

However, I personally think some courses that fall under BA should be mandatory for all majors.

Yup, was the same at my school. All the frat boys, athletic scholarships, and party girls. Couple years ago my wife got an MBA, and she said the same about her classmates. I figure now that companies don't have money to piss away, the smart ones are dropping out of the MBA>all game.

Maybe catch all is a better way to put it.

But I don't actually believe your chances are better with business. I think a lot of employers just want to see A degree and don't actually care too much what it is. Obviously there are going to be exceptions to that rule.

MBA is another one....everyone goes and gets one of those.

My husband has a business degree and he has never used it, at least I used my liberal arts degree, well maybe my liberal arts degree was just a stepping point for my Ed. Degree ( to be totally honest) and the main reason he hasn't used his business degree is that he got his pilots license while in University and is a commercial pilot..

But from what he says, his business degree is pretty useless.

Finance or Accounting majors could be described as moderately challenging, but if you are a General Business or Marketing major, it's pretty much a cakewalk. Liberal Arts is actually more difficult.
